Dainik Bhaskar in association with Sehwag International School had a ‘Focus Group Discussion’ on “Meri Beti Mera Gourav”at SIS campus on March 14th, 2013. Many eminent personalities of the district participated in the discussion and came to a common consensus that girls should be empowered and educated to build their confidence level. Women should be safe and secure in the country and a revolutionary change in the society can be brought about only when ladies are given due respect in our own families. Everyone felt that financial dependence, illiteracy and dowry to a larger extent are the major causes for female feoticide. Spreading Awareness programmes in the families of the villages, equal opportunities to both the gender, increasing the number of fast track courts, counseling at the primary level, banning the ultrasound for sex determination and banning abortion of girl child are some of the ways through which we can bring about a change in the mindset of our people and the society. Mrs. Aarti Sehwag, Chairperson SIS strongly recommended that moral and social values should be inculcated in the children so that they can contribute effectively in bringing about a change in the society, an awareness programme for women’s safety, self -defense and respect should be carried out and rather than racking up the issues we should look into the solutions and implement them.
